Roman mosaics at Mirišta

Mirišta site, Petrovac

The Roman mosaics at Mirišta bear witness to late antique Petrovac. According to the museum institution, a fragment depicting three fish with a shared head, discovered in 1902, has not survived. A larger mosaic discovered in 1941 is divided into twelve panels with geometric and plant motifs; the museum tentatively dates it to the mid-4th century and links it to the beginnings of early Christian art.

Understanding the site

The mosaics are floor decorations of a former building. The precise dating is an assumption, so we describe them as late antique, without inventing an exact year.

A visit requires confirmation
