Kastio and Lazaret

Western end of the Petrovac waterfront, by the harbour

Kastio and Lazaret mark part of the Petrovac waterfront by the harbour. In the 16th century the Venetians built a fortress with a garrison and storehouses, while the neighbouring Lazaret served for quarantine. The name Kastel Lastva has remained part of the place's story.

What you will recognise on the waterfront

The remains of the walls, the coastal position and the harbour connect the former defences, trade and control of arrivals by sea. Fit the visit into a walk through the centre rather than planning it as a distant excursion.

Historic space and present-day use

There are also restaurants and bars in this area. Distinguish the historic landmark from a restaurant or bar service; access to individual terraces and spaces is not the same.

How to include it in your day

Come from the promenade, linger in the accessible outdoor area and take in the bay. For an event or entry, check the specific date and time, because a historical description is not a programme calendar.
